This year New Caledonian Woodlands are joining forces with author Julie Sandilands who has written a children’s story about a little boy in the woods in Yorkshire. Julie will be donating some of the proceeds from the sale of her book to us.
Finn’s Tale is a story about a young boy growing up in a mining village in the 1960s. The tale describes Finn’s life during a particular autumn within the small, rural community, and the effect the mine has had, not only on the village, but on his family and upbringing.
Finn is a sensitive, intelligent young boy who doesn’t like school or being confined indoors. He spends most of his spare time exploring Tyndale Wood, not far from his home. Here, Finn uncovers secrets about the local mountain known as Mount Shallien, as well as his own heritage.
One night, Finn is invited inside Mount Shallien by the ancient race of people who live there. After this enlightening visit, Finn is able to face the bullies and make changes which will not only affect his life, but also the lives of those around him.
