Ardkinglas Adventure
Friday 27th June to Sunday 29th June
Loch Fyne is Scotland's longest sea loch and it reaches far inland to deep within the Highlands. Ardkinglas is about 15 miles from Inveraray and encompasses the upper four miles of Loch Fyne and the full length of Glen Fyne. This mixture of sea shore with high rugged hills gives the area a unique atmosphere.
Ardkinglas House sits to the east of the
loch, on a fairy tale site amongst ancient woodland. Nearby,
the famous Ardkinglas Woodland Garden follows the tumbling waters
of the River Kinglas. The
main gardens contain a huge variety of specimen trees, including
one tree which may possibly be the tallest tree in the UK!
Date |
Friday 27th June to Sunday 29th June |
Tasks |
We are still finalising the task for this project, but we will be involved in the management of the woodland and this is likely to include management and improvement of the footpaths as well as control of invasive species in the woodland area. |
Site |
Ardkinglas Woodland Garden is situated on the banks of beautiful Loch Fyne on the west coast of Scotland – there can’t be many places as idyllic as this. |
Accommodation |
Accommodation will be in the nearby Cairndow Village Hall which sits on the edge of Loch Fyne, within clear site of the world famous oyster bar! Those of you who have heard of the four-poster bed accommodation that New Caledonian Woodlands conjures up for some weekends should get real and pack a sleeping bag and a roll mat. We will be sleeping on the floor! |
Food |
Dinner on Friday and Saturday night as well as breakfast and lunch on Saturday and Sunday will be included in the price. |
Transport |
We will collect people from outside Jimmy Chungs Chinese Restaurant on Waverley Bridge in Edinburgh at 6.00 pm on the Friday and will return to the spot for about 5 pm on the Sunday. Transport to and from the site is included in the cost of the weekend. |
The cultural bit |
A free visit to the Ardkinglas Woodland Garden is available – home to (possibly) Scotland’s tallest tree and an amazing variety of specimen plants. We will also take a trip to nearby Inveraray a pretty loch-side village which crucially has a pub. |
Cost |
£25/£20 waged/unwaged. |
