Tree to Spoon – An Introduction To Spoon Carving

Saturday 5th November 2016 – Sunday 6th November 2016

Green Hub Site, Edinburgh

Over this two day course at our leafy hub site, we will introduce you to the processes involved in carving small items from green wood. You will come away from the event with one or two items that you have made having had a full introduction to the art of spoon carving. You don’t need to have previous experience of green woodworking or of using carving tools - we provide all the tuition you’ll need as well as all the tools.

Activity

We’ll introduce the tools and traditional techniques involved in working green wood and talk through topics such as design and function, wood species choice, tool selection, drying, detailing and finishing.
It would be really nice if you could bring along a small wooden object or your favourite spoon for inspiration and to spark a bit of a discussion about the types of wood that can be used and the different styles of carving.

Food

We will provide a delicious lunch both days and warm drinks and snacks throughout. Please let us know in advance if you have any special dietary requirements.

Transport

We are asking everyone to meet at our Edinburgh “hub” in Inverleith Park, Stockbridge at 10am each day and we should finish up around 5pm.
