Pentland Hills Regional Park Habitat Management Project
The site
The Pentland Hills Regional Park offers many opportunities to explore peaceful places, and open spaces remarkably close to where people live, across the Lothians.
Most come for the fresh air, peace and quiet and to be surrounded by nature and the elements. This may involve an active energetic activity or enjoying a picnic with family and friends at our picnic sites at Flotterstone, Bonaly, Hillend or Harlaw.
There are over 100km of signposted routes available across the hills enjoyed by over 600, 000 visitors annually. The park provides multi-use paths that can accommodate the varying means by which people enjoy the hills. Making good use of paths too, will ensure the visitor can minimise erosion and disturbance to wildlife and land management around the park.
The project
A great deal of management is required to balance the requirement for the regional park to be used as an amenity for over 600,000 visitors annually, with the important need to manage it in a way which protects biodiversity and supports the natural environment. A number of different project options are available for groups to undertake, including footpath maintenance and construction and the management of invasive plant species. Pease contact Andy Ross directly to discuss project options, as these will tend to change with the seasons.
