Biodiversity Weekend Project

programme of events>

We visit many parts of Scotland from the Borders to the Highlands on our residential conservation projects.

The purpose

These weekend events offer a great way to learn more about our natural heritage, while protecting and improving it for future generations. You will also meet new people, have fun and learn about what you can do to reduce your environmental impact.

The locations

All of our projects have been carefully chosen to ensure that they meet certain criteria. Work is carried out at sites that can be freely accessed by the public. The emphasis is on improving environmental assets that can be enjoyed by all. In addition, all projects enhance levels of native biodiversity, while in many cases also offsetting carbon through planting activities.

The details

Our residential events include all food (as organic and local as we can manage), transport and accommodation. Accommodation ranges from four-poster beds in stately homes to village hall floors and we always carry a few spare air mattresses to help you get the best sleep you can. We make time during each weekend for a trip to somewhere interesting nearby and we have a discussion about a different environmental topic each trip. We usually find time to play a few daft but fun games, while to help get people out of bed in the mornings, we provide a full cooked breakfast every Sunday!

The price

When it comes to our weekends we employ a ‘goodwill philosophy’ to keep our prices very affordable. We don’t charge the land managers who we volunteer our time with, but instead ask for them to provide us with in-kind support such as accommodation and home-made soup in exchange for our help on their project. This means that everyone benefits, while everyone’s financial contribution is very low – we think this represents a good example of how people can work together to achieve great things without spending lots of money.

Our weekends cost £30 waged or £20 unwaged. There is an extra charge for long weekend trips.
