New Caledonian Woodlands

Tree planting day

Location

Donald Rose Wood, Fife. The wood is to the northeast of the village of
Star, which is itself to the northeast of Glenrothes. Grid reference for
the site is NO 328 035

Dates

Saturday 17 April 2010

Activity

A new native woodland, surrounding a reservoir, is emerging to replace a conifer plantation which was felled a few years ago. Unfortunately a fire destroyed some of the early planting and there are still major gaps. We will be planting native broadleaved trees and protecting them with tree shelters. The woodland belongs to a group of people who like care about native woodlands.

Food

As ever, we will be offering an exceptionally delicious lunch of soup, sandwiches and cakes and also lots of hot drinks and biscuits. There will also be mulled wine to finish the day.

Transport

We will collect participants from outside Jimmy Chung’s Chinese Restaurant on Waverley Bridge at 10.00 am and return you by about 5.00 pm.

Cost

£15 per person including lunch, transport and lots of native species trees.
