Lochgilphead Social Woodlands – long weekend

Lochgilphead

2–5 July 2010

The woodlands surrounding the old Argyll & Bute mental hospital at Blarbuie in Lochgilphead had fallen into a neglected state.   Then Hugh Fife of Reforesting Scotland had the idea of transforming them from a dark scary place into somewhere light and open which patients, staff and visitors to the hospital could enjoy.   The same applies to the woods planted around the Council offices at Kilmory Castle.   They badly need rescuing so that staff and local people can enjoy walking through them again.

Kilmartin, just up the road from Lochgilphead, is the location of some of the best prehistoric remains in Scotland.

Please note that this is a long weekend, leaving on Friday morning, returning Monday evening.
